In this seminar Daniel Silva Withmory will present his thesis proposal review on “Macroeconomic effects of government expenditure: A SVAR approach”. He will present progress on his paper that assesses the effect of government expenditure on real activity, public debt and other economic variables in a small open economy such as Australia.

This study extends the structural vector autoregression model used by Blanchard and Perotti (2002) and Favero and Giavazzi (2007) by including an external sector, which is relevant for a small country like Australia. He will also present a plan for his research going forward.

Daniel Silva Withmory is a PhD student in Economics at the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis in Crawford School of Public Policy. His thesis focuses on macroeconomic policy. He also works as an economist at the Australian Treasury (currently on leave).
